Smog Eating Technology ( UPSC Prelims)

News Context

The Delhi Government has commissioned a study to explore the application of Smog Eating photocatalytic coatings on roads.
  ● Objective: The aim is to decrease levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and harmful hydrocarbons in public areas, thereby enhancing both air and water quality.  
  ● Mechanism - Photocatalytic activity: This process utilizes light energy to break down harmful pollutants and organic waste.  
        ○ Typically, titanium dioxide (TiO₂) coatings are employed for photocatalysis under UV light to decompose NOx.
