News Context

Odisha has declared the Similipal Tiger Reserve as a National Park, making it the largest in the state, surpassing Bhitarkanika. It is situated in the Mayurbhanj District of Odisha, within the Chottanagpur region. The park is traversed by several rivers, including the Burhabalanga, Palpala Bandan, Salandi, Kahairi, and Deo. It is also a part of the Mayurbhanj Elephant Reserve. Notable waterfalls in the area are Joranda and Barehipani. The region is home to various tribes such as the Kolha, Santhala, Bhumija, Bhatudi, Gondas, Khadia, Mankadia, and Sahara.
