News Context

A study has connected land use to water pollution in Loktak Lake, located in the Bishnupur and Thoubal districts of Manipur. This lake is home to the only floating park in the world, which contains the largest area of Phumdi (floating islands of vegetation). Recognized as a Ramsar site and listed on the Montreux Record, Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India and is renowned for its phumdis. The lake's fauna includes the Brow-antlered deer (Sangai), Hog Deer, and Otter.
