Dhole (Asiatic wild dog) ( UPSC Prelims)

News Context

The dhole, previously believed to be extinct in the area, has reappeared in Assam's Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong Landscape (KKAL).
 Habitat:
      ○ Found in India, Cambodia, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Central Asia, and more.
      ○ Resides in the Eastern & Western Ghats, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Ladakh, etc.
 Protected under WPA, 1972 Schedule I and listed in Appendix EN.
 Characteristics:
  ● Carnivores that resemble a small wolf or domestic dog in size.  
      ○ Primarily hunt in the early morning or late evening.
