The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has prolonged the validity of infrastructure projects sanctioned under the 2011 Islands Protection Zone (IPZ) notification.
      ○ The IPZ serves as a regulatory framework designed to protect the ecological integrity of the Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep island groups.
        ○ It is akin to the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), with the distinction that the CRZ is designated for safeguarding the coastal regions of mainland India.
      ○ The notification was issued in 2011 under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
      ○ The regulation encompasses:
    ● Island Coastal Regulation Zone (ICRZ) for areas such as Middle Andaman, North Andaman, South Andaman, Little Andaman, etc.
    ● Integrated Islands Management Plans (IIMPs), which are applicable to all other islands within the Andaman and Nicobar and all islands of Lakshadweep.
