Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ) ( UPSC Prelims)

News Context

The Supreme Court has instructed the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) to evaluate how the nearby glass industry affects the Taj Mahal. In previous instances, the Supreme Court has issued various directives concerning the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ), such as the 1996 prohibition on the use of coal/coke in industries within the TTZ.

About TTZ

 ● Location: A 10,400 sq km area shaped like a trapezoid surrounding the Taj Mahal to prevent pollution.  
  ● Coverage: Includes three World Heritage Sites: the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Fatehpur Sikri.  
  ● Taj Trapezium Zone Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority: Established under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.  
  ● Categories of Industries: Classified as Red, Green, Orange, and White based on their pollution potential, as determined by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
